Gamaleya inhabits two 19th century neighbouring buildings in Old Cairo that have been in Dr. Kassissia’s family for many decades.
Both buildings were in severe disrepair and required a lot of effort, love, and care to rehabilitate.
The first location, 21 Haret Bergewan, built using ancient building techniques, currently hosts rooms and suites.
The second Gamaleya building is 14 Amir el Geyoushi, which hosts a school, workshop, and exhibition space. It is spacious with high ceilings and wide atriums - and follows strict workplace safety regulations.
Our hope is that the sight of these spaces being restored to their former glory and vitality spreads to the surrounding street and eventually the entire district.
